About British Pathfinder
British Pathfinder is a free map for discovering footpaths, access land and places to explore. You can browse without an account. Start with Grasmere in the Lake District, or move and zoom the map to explore somewhere else.
Data and coverage
Our name reflects a British focus, but the outdoor map layers do not provide complete coverage across Britain. The layers currently displayed are:
- England’s access land, national parks, National Landscapes, country parks and national nature reserves.
- Public rights of way where supplied in our dataset: footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic. These appear as you zoom in to a local view.
The background map is supplied by OpenFreeMap using OpenStreetMap data. Background paths and our rights-of-way overlays are different datasets; a path on the background map does not by itself establish a public right of access. See the map attribution for credits and licences.
Coverage and completeness vary by area. We do not claim complete rights-of-way coverage for England, Scotland or Wales, or a regular update schedule. Missing features do not establish that there is no public access. Check current access information and restrictions with the relevant local authority or land manager before visiting.
